I know EVERYONE loved the food our big time Italian Chef put together for last years picnic. He'll be back and I told him this time to plan on about 4 times as much food next year. I couldn't believe the shark attack that hit the buffet in July. THIS WILL BE A DAWN-TO-DUSK EVENT, which will allow more time for paintball after we are done with the cookout. Stays light until 8:30 so why not make a day of it. |

STALINGRAD KESSEL [Cauldron]!!!!
No mercs No spies Simple kill rules Objective: Hold the village (for Rooskies) Take the village (for Der OPFOR) Seige warfare never went out of style, be it medieval times, Yorktown, Verdun, Stalingrad, Leningrad (800days!!!!), Berlin, or in modern times like Sarajevo, and Baghdad. Talk about cool! Just run a tape line behind the village to simulate the Volga, and have Rooskie respawn from the other side in groups. OPFOR attacks at will. Just an idea |

If your talking about holding every building in the city. That is outrageous. There is no way we would be able to hold every building. Each building would be picked off one by one, and eventually be come a game of Reichstag. |

Yes the buildings, but more as well. A siege is rarely just the urban district itself. While we in the west have come to call it simply "Stalingrad", at the time it was called "The Kessel" or the "Stalingrad Kessel/cauldron." It was the thin strip of city on the W bank, but far more of the battle took place in the countryside around the city (though the city was always the key objective).
Take for example Khe Sahn or Dien Bien Phu or Sarajevo in the 90's and Beirut in the 80's...the town/city was the object, and the surrounding countryside is where the seige was decided. I'm just saying the buildings should be the objective. Dunno about a Reichstag game. Sounds fun. Saturday was my first time at Battlefront |

It could be turned into a objective based game. The defending team must hold as many of the buildings as possible. If a building is lost, lets say ammo dump 1, then the defending team has limited amount of time to regain control of the building or it is lost. If the defending team holds one building by the end of X minuets, they win.

The Reichstag building in the SW corner of the city got it's name based upon the popularity of this game. Basically you have a fixed number on defense and an equal number on offense. German defenders have no respawn and offensive Russians have rolling respawn. Germans win if they hold out for X minutes and can play in either the tower, ammo dump or the Reichstag but one needs to be alive after time is up. I think in all of the years it's only been defended 4 times. Reichstag patch awarded if you do. Edited by MonkeyHouse - Jun/09/2009 at 11:33am |

In antiquity those that excelled in warfare first made themselves unconquerable in order to await the moment when the enemy could be conquered.

Actually it's been done 6 times i think, some of the original games from way back were never recorded, I have 2 Reichstag Crosses for instance but only one of the games is recoreded on the web site.

That makes more sense. For some reason I thought the Reichstag was historically significant during the fall of Berlin but after checking wiki I see that I was wrong about that. |

The Reichstag was historically significant, it was also called the Reicht Chancellory, kind of hitlers version of the white house\congress. The reicht was the ultimate goal for the russians, it's capture signaled the fall of berlin and the end of nazi germany. It was also the place where hitler killed himself.

I thought he killed himself in his private bunker. Were they attached? Ok so then it isn't to far off that the game could have been named first but per chance happened to be named afterward. |

The building was named the Reichstag first, i know, i was there. And yes hitler did kill himself in a bunker UNDER the Reichstag. If you can find any old maps of the field you will see the Reichstag actually has two names to that building, the reichstag and The Fueher Bunker. Over time however it's just been shortened to the Rechtstag.
