Band of Brothers Recap

10:00 Day of Days

Easy Company is mixed up to represent misdrops and then “flown” to various locations on the field pre-selected by their general prior to the start of the game.  Certain grid locations were considered protected by German AA fire, but Easy was fortunate enough to dodge these locations and no troops were lost as a result.  Fierce fighting took place all over the field for the next hour.  When the dust settled, German Army Group B had only managed to hold on to one of the five flag locations.

10:20 Downed recon plane

A German recon plane is shot down in a dogfight near Easy’s sector.  It is confirmed that camera equipment is on board, but in bad condition.  Easy is sent to secure the perimeter so that a special team may be called in to remove the equipment without further damaging it.  The Germans make several attempts to retrieve their camera equipment from the plane, but have little success.  Easy company succeeds in securing the sight for the designated time period.

10:30 Brecourt Manor

A group of Germans man the 88’s at Brecourt Manor and begin firing down on six pre-selected targets on Omaha Beach.  Several shots go wide, but one scores a direct hit.  Moments later, Easy Company launches a surprise attack and eliminates the German gun crew.  Demolition members are called in with satchel charges and destroy all three gun emplacements.

10:40 Pathfinder rescue mission

A US pathfinder, played by a member of Easy Company, is trapped behind enemy lines near the German HQ.  A rescue party is dispatched to rescue him, but are unable to do so within the time period.  Pathfinder is considered captured by the enemy.

11:00  German recon pilot

It is learned by the German general that the pilot of the previously shot down recon plane did in fact survive the bailout and is lying low near the US HQ.  Nick, from Biohazard took on the role of the German pilot and stayed hidden in the brush while several American patrols walked by him.  Some time later a German rescue squad links up and a hasty return to the German HQ is made.

11:15  Battle for Carentan

Armor becomes available and the Germans put theirs to good use while Easy Company, lacking any real heavy equipment, relies more on their rocket infantry hiding in the bushes to ambush the tanks.  Initially the assault on Carentan goes well for Easy Company.  A methodical push is made from one end of the town to the other until the entire area is clear of Germans.  New orders are given to hold the high ground near the town on Hill 226.  Holding this flag station would have prevented the Germans from being able to make a counterattack back into Carentan, but only a few members of Easy make their way to the top of the hill and are overrun a short time later.  A counterattack for Carentan ensues resulting in German Army Group B retaking 2 of the three lost flags.

During the battle for Carentan:

11:45 Tiger Tank Trouble

Easy Company is advised that reinforcements are coming their way down the main road, but recon has discovered a Tiger Tank blocking the way.  The German General is advised to hold the roadblock at all cost using his armor.  The Tiger Tank meets zero resistance from Easy Company who is busy trying to force the Germans from Carentan.

12:00 Decipher coded message

Both generals receive a coded message.  Breaking the coded message first will result in a bonus for the upcoming Market Garden mission after lunch.  Easy Company is fortunate enough to have Crypt Wolf on their side who quickly breaks the code.  This results in misinformation being given to the German general regarding the point value of objectives for the Market Garden mission.

12:15 V1 Rocket site

Easy Company is informed that a V1 rocket site has been discovered in their area.  Members are quickly sent over to take and hold this location in the hopes of gaining some information on this technology.  One member of Easy Company held off the Germans for the majority of the mission, but ended up being overrun in the end.

12:20 US supply misdrop

Reports are received by both sides that a US cargo plane has misdropped critical supplies into a no mans land near the farm house.  An Easy Company squad lead by Ivan is sent to retrieve the large, wooden ammo boxes lying in the tall weeds.  As two of the boxes are picked up and moved into the clear, a German armored patrol turns the bend and begins to rumble down the path towards them.  Easy quickly jumped back into the weeds and stayed hidden while the patrol comes by and discovers the two ammo boxes now lying in the open.  Without a rocket launcher, Easy Company is helpless against the tank and is forced to watch the patrol pick up the two boxes and carry them back to the German HQ.  It is quickly discovered that there are two additional boxes still lying in the weeds and these are recovered by Easy and taken to their HQ

12:25 Meet the Crypto

It is discovered that there is a cryptographer in the area (played by referee Funkie) who may be able to crack the coded messages that were intercepted earlier.  Easy Company had already cracked their messages, but understood what an asset the cryptographer would be to the Germans should he be captured.  Both teams sent out patrols to find the Cryptographer who was discovered first by Easy Company lounging in the shade.  The cryptographer joined their patrol and was nearly intercepted by the German patrol  as they attempted to make their way back to the US HQ.  A quick dash for safety was made and the cryptographer was escorted without further incident to the US HQ.

1:00 Battle for Carentan ends/Lunch begins

2:00  Operation Market Garden.

Easy company is airdropped to the north and south of the German HQ.  An additional squad lands smack in the middle of a small German defensive position on top of Hill 226.  This position is quickly wiped out, but not before taking a few members of Easy Company with them.  The squad that is flown over the German HQ and dropped north its location, faces little resistance and should have easily been able to make a strong push and overrun the base, but inexplicably opts to pull back and tries to flank the HQ from the railroad track side.  This attack becomes bogged down by the thick brush and stalls out.  Fierce fighting ensues but the German defenders hold fast and protect their assets, keeping all three flags at the end of the hour.

2:20  Kommando raid

The German military is suffering as a direct result of being unable to match the US army’s oil production capabilities.  Knowing that they will never be able to take and hold an oil production facility behind enemy lines, a group of five Kommandos are dispatched to destroy the facility in the area.  The group is flown in and dropped off on the main road where they pick their way through the underbrush to their objective.  They find the oil facility lightly guarded and with some coordinated fire, they quickly overrun it and successfully place their comp B charges to complete the mission.

2:40  Crossroads

The Germans have set up a checkpoint at the crossroads near a ferry crossing.  They successfully ambushed an Easy Company patrol but failed to eliminate all members and their position is compromised.  Fearing that the position may be over run, additional squads are sent to locations at the top and base of Hill 240.  Easy Company does not contest these flags and the Germans are able to relax in relative comfort for a time.  The complete German victories in Market Garden and at the Crossroads allow the German team to surge past Easy Company, who until now held a narrow lead.

3:00  Battle of the Bulge

Easy Company is tasked with defending the outskirts of Bastogne against a surprise attack by German Army Group B.  Flag stations are set up at the farm house, across the road and across the river.  Communication breakdown results in the Germans getting a slow start on the attack, opting instead to defend objectives that held no value in town.  Word is finally relayed and a push on Bastogne is made by fifty or so Germans along with both tanks.  Even in the face of overwhelming enemy armor and difficult to hold defensive positions, Easy Company prevails only losing one flag station to the attacking Germans before Patton arrives to drive them back.  The victory for Easy at Bastogne narrows the German lead in overall points for the game.

3:05  Rescue Bull Randleman

Couldn’t find a player to volunteer for this role on the American side.  Germans were compensated with $1,000 instead of $2,000 as a result of the mission being a bust but through no fault of their own.

3:10  Supply truck breakthrough

During the Battle of the Bulge, supplies began to run low.  A 2 ½ truck was called in to try and break through enemy lines with a small US escort.  The Deuce needed to have Easy Company members out in front or it would not move.  The starting location was the main gate and it was to drive all the way down to the outskirts of Bastogne in order for the mission to be a success for Easy.  The truck carried an additional US flag that would be worth bonus points to Easy Company if it could successfully be escorted through enemy lines.  Easy Company opted to utilize their armor for this mission and drove through several ambushes on their way to Bastogne.  Nearly all Easy Company players firing from the back of the Deuce were eliminated, but the US tank survived and thus successfully escorted the Deuce to friendly lines, earning Easy company bonus points if the new flag stayed up.  It did.

4:15 Battle for Foy

Easy Company gathers on the outskirts of Foy in preparation for the final assault.  A victory is still possible for the men of Easy if they can wrestle the town from Army Group B’s grip.  A fierce assault ensues and Easy Company begins to gain control over the town, first changing the flag at Outpost One, then the Inn and then Outpost Three.

During the opening volley of the conflict, Captain Speirs, played by ARC Trooper Chappy, is told that if they don’t link up with I Company, then the enemy may slip away.  Speirs must then run through town and make it to a predetermined area without being eliminated.  At this time, Easy had not yet gained a foothold in town.  Alone and unarmed, Speirs calmly began walking towards the enemy.  Without a gun, the Germans pay him little attention and he is able to get a few feet within the town’s perimeter before taking off in a dead run towards the warehouse.  Several shots are fired at Speirs but he is already moving too quickly for the enemy to get a bead on him.  The linkup between I Company and Easy Company is completed moments later.

The Germans continue to put up fierce resistance from within the warehouse and cottage.  Easy company moves the AT gun into a position where it can cover the only armor entrance to the town.  A tank finally falls prey to the AT gun and Easy company continues to push on the warehouse.  Crew after crew is eliminated as Easy attempts to use the AT gun to knockout the defenders in the warehouse.  Finally a round finds its mark and ends the resistance of roughly eight players within this building.  The US flag is finally raised at the warehouse and victory is only ten minutes away for Easy.  The German general makes his stand coming through the backdoor of the warehouse and running through withering fire to the warehouse flag station.  Having a headshot only advantage, he takes multiple rounds to the legs, arms and torso while desperately trying to raise the German flag again.  Despite a valiant effort, the attempts are unsuccessful.

The distraction, however, allowed for a German player nicknamed Hades, to quietly take back the flag at O.P.1 and eliminate two members of Easy Company on the main road. Time was short and Easy Company still had the lead.  Hades called out to a referee and asked him to advise when there was one minute left in the game.  The referee responded with “you are under 1 minute now!”  With that, Hades made a dash to the Inn and began to hug the outside of the wall.  Being one of the German team’s XOs, he too was afforded the benefit of a headshot only elimination and stayed close to the walls to make his elimination from the defenders inside more difficult.  Hades swept around the corner and quickly dispatched a member of Easy inside Ammo Dump 1.  At this moment, the defenders inside the Inn came alive and began to fire on his lower body at close range.  Hades wheeled around and ended their protest with several well placed shots.  With the US flag now just several paces away, a quick run was made to change out the flag.  The two operators of the AT gun failed to notice the flag transition taking place just feet away as they sighted in on German armor advancing back into the town.  Within seconds, two quick taps from Hades’ barrel sent the AT gunners to the dead box.  As the last second ticked away on the clock, the horn finally sounded and the Germans eeked by with the narrowest of victories over Easy Company.

I was so spaced out watching my watch & counting the final seconds before I was suppose to sound the horn, that I totally missed Hades' Kamikaze performance.

I'm going to briefly resurrect a dead thread here.

Just a fun FYI:  Some of the cast of the Band of Brothers series will be at the Lake Erie Monsters game on 11/12 signing autographs.  Ron Livingston (Nixon), Michael Cudlitz (Bull) and Richard Speight Jr (Muck).
