If you are buying this game for multiplayer, let me save you 60 bucks. Just go play Modern Warfare 2 again. It is the SAME THING. Forget about all the customization you loved in Black Ops. You will get none of that here. That's right, no custom emblem maker, no character view screen, no face paint, etc. I was really hoping for a massive expansion on the customization. Not removal. Buy Arkham City instead. I hear Battlefield 3 is good too. Just don't buy this game. I'm going to beat the campaign mode and trade it in. Worthless...

I bought BF3. The multiplayer gets intense fast. You'll rage a lot in the beginning, but as you get better it gets way more fun. The campaign is a disappointing piece of crap, but BF3 isn't about the campaigns. There is is a lot of customization in terms of class, but not so much as Black Ops had on a more personalized level. However neither Black Ops or MW2/MW3 has planes, tanks, helicopters, armored vehicles, and jeeps in the multiplayer like BF3 does :D. The maps are very large as well and camping is less frequent due to the spotting function letting you mark people you see with a red light above them when you see them. Either way, we all knew MW3 was going to be another slice from the same exact loaf of bread.

Hence why I didn't buy it.
I invested in Battlefield 3. Just like you said Peter, its frustrating at times but if you can get a good squad that communicates, its a blast. |

I bought it for the campaign. Like a good book series I have to see how it ends.
I'll play the multiplayer and spec old till I get frustrated, then its back to bf3 |

Agree with Peter 100%. Though along the lines of what Chappy said, I'm definitely interested in playing the campaign mode in MW3. I'll probably hunt down a buddy who's sure to be bored of it in the upcoming weeks and borrow it off him.
BF3 is the way to go. We can start a Battlefront clan. ;)

We should just find a night where we can form a large party. Even if we had 8 people between two squads you could do some damage.
Maybe just call our clan BFPB? Edited by Hunter - Nov/10/2011 at 10:50am |

Don't think less of me... I like MW3. Yeah the MP is pretty much the same as the first two, but the first two were awesome, why wouldn't I like an newer version? It really is a glorified map & weapons pack, but I also think reworking the Killstreaks is interesting too. I'll get to SO & story mode probably next week sometime which were both great modes before, I expect the same this time around. But really, the replay-ability of MP is the reason I bought it. $60 for just a handful of improvements seems like a lot, but I have to consider how many hours of fun I'm going to have playing it & it ends up being pretty cheap per hour.
Essentially, BF3 is the same as the BFBC series & a lot like MoH (seriously the best story mode of all time). Sure there are improvements thru everything but it's really not that much different. I've never been a big fan of their MP, I find it frustrating, but that's just me. I think it relies too much on team concepts. If you can be on w/ a group of friends or are lucky enough to be linked w/ a group that knows what they are doing it's fine, if however you are stuck w/ a bunch of retards it's infuriating. |

As much as I like MW3 so far, I agree with most of the above posts. The customization of Black Ops was such a cool idea, and the unlock system was incredibly convenient. While it is essentially one big map-pack for MW2, was MW2 so much different from MW1? I still think CoD1 was the best of the series though. And overall, CoD really hasn't done much for the shooter genre besides popularize it into a viable online format and move the settings from WW2 into the modern age. I'm getting pumped for Borderlands 2, that's gonna be good.

Yeah, being stuck with a bunch of retards is infuriating (though I guess that applies to most things). I've always enjoyed the team aspect of Battlefield though. You do have to rely on them a little bit more than MW, but I don't know that it's outrageous. (Frankly I'm not skilled enough to run through 300 rounds of ammo before dying and desperately need the assistance of a teammate to supply me with some more.) I kind of view the team stuff as a bonus. If they help you out, great. If not, then you're no worse off then you would be with MW where all your buddies are running around like chickens with their heads cut off.
It's okay though, Ger. We still like you. Dare to be different. :)

LOL, truth. I love the team aspect a lot & have used it as much as possible in both BF & MW series. My issue is if I don't have it in BF I'm screwed, if I don't have it in MW I can still manage a good score & have fun doing it. There's nothing worse than deciding whether you should run 2 miles or wait for a tank to respawn because your squad is full of morons. If you can get w/ your friends in both games it's always better, but MW at least allows for the lonewolf player if you have to or just want to. The one improvement I've seen w/ MW3 over all previous versions (BO & WaW included) is greater rewards for being more team oriented. It's not just kill-kill-kill, although you can still choose to play that way, but it doesn't have to be. One thing is the new killstreak classes, allowing them to be adjusted specifically for each player class & allowing you to choose between getting kills or supporting your team - I love throwing out a vest package for my team & racking up 300 XP for basically doing nothing. |

Thanks for the head's up, Hades. I assumed it would be basically a $60 update. I skipped BOps entirely and I don't really feel worse for wear. I've been playing MW2 again this week since my XBox Live is finally back on after 2 months of Microsoft investigating to make sure I didn't fly to Korea and hack my own account. People are still randomly throwing Javelins at the start of a match, but it looks like most of the bad characters have moved on. It's actually a better online environment than it was last time I played. I'll probably rent/borrow MW3 to play the single player and Special Ops. Honestly, SO was by far the highlight of MW2 for me. I'd pay $60 for a disc full of that in a heartbeat.
I've actually been thinking about getting back into an MMORPG. I love social gaming and FPS multiplayer frankly isn't social, unless you count it because it's sociopathological. I played Final Fantasy XI for about 4 years and since I quit in '07 I've really missed that sense of community in gaming. Unfortunately Micro$oft won't play ball with any MMORPG developers, so FFXI is still the only option on the platform. ::shrug::

For me the problem I had with the Cod games was a technical aspect. Mw2 I had very little problems with lag and hit detection. On black ops it was terrible in both those aspects. It just infuriated me. I would have gotten MW3 if it was truly Infinity Ward that made it. But most of that team that created it left the company after MW2. So the people that made MW3 are pretty much Treyarch. I will borrow it off a buddy so that I can play the campaign as well. The story was a very good one.
The nice thing for Battlefield 3 is that it is dedicated servers. Lag is rare if non-existent. |

Do you have it set to local servers? I had a lot of lag issues until I cut out the servers from Europe, Australia, etc. Now it's pretty rare.

No doubt, two of my biggest complaints w/ BO, that & graphics were a step back, even MW1 looked better. I played BO for a while but eventually went back to MW2. The "bendy-bullets" where a joke, seemed 3arc took the JFK era (magic bullet) a little too literally. Honestly, this definitely feels exactly like an IW game... the production quality is very high like I would expect from IW. Yes, a lot of gamers don't like that they took a "step back" on some features that 3arc introduced. Honestly, I wasted too much time trying to design funny emblems when I should've been in game, so I won't miss them. 3arc has a history of just copying IWs release & adding a few cosmetic upgrades, but IW has seemed deadset against including much of what 3arc put in. |

Just finished the campaign for MW3 and it was a great ending. (unlike the waste of my life that was the bf3 story)
