Anyone at the field have experience with a Save Phace mask? Complaints I've heard: fogs more than other masks, rides low on the face and pinches nose. Any truth to these in your experiences?

I have a Save Phace:
Unless you have a double lens, no mask is fog proof. But even with that I have a significant amount of facial hair which send most of the warm air i breath out and up into my lens so I have more fog issues than most. That being said: I Like the Save Phace and ofter wear it when reffing. I do not have a fan attached to it and it still stays clear in foggy conditions with a single lens. This is impressive in itself but like i said you can make ANY mask fog and the real test is how fast does it clear after being in foggy conditions. Foggy Situation Report: As a 'sniper' my mission was to infiltrate deep territory without being discovered to eliminate a specific objective. While slithering through enemy territory I encounter a large squad of enemy. They are well armed and I see that Senior is among their ranks. There is no option but hiding and letting them pass by. It had rained earlier and the heat and humidity on top of the fact that I was inside a bush and the air was stagnant there. Now in these types of conditions it is very difficult to keep a mask clear in-fact the only reason i had not been spotted by their point man was because their lenses were fogged as well. Now If I'm wearing the save phace it may fog up a little in these conditions, but after stepping out of the bush and getting some air moving around the mask it clears up very fast. I really don't plan on putting a fan on it, cause as long as your moving, it stays clear. Their lenses are way stronger than they need to be for paintball, and their the only mask you can have painted without voiding a warranty on the plastics durability. |

Agreed!
This drew my attention when I was on their site, and is a definite plus. How easy is the lens to remove and install? I also heard some grumblings about the difficult disassembly/reassemly of the forehead protector from other reviews. Also, does the mask pinch your nose and make it hard to breath out of your nose?

I used on at the Buldge this weekend, i didn't have any fog problems of course i was taking my time sleuthing around. In the warmer weather they are a plus because they have less contact on your face, the forehead protector has a ridge on it unlike a smoot plastic visor that can get annoying tho. The final bonus is the maaterial around the goggles, its like the perfect balance of being durable and comfortable.

Me and Brian both have save phace masks and I have to be honest...neither of us have ever had a mask that fogs as much as these, even the thermal lenses. I have had plenty of masks that never fogged on me but save phace thermal lenses are about as worthless as they come.

This is why I offer to let you try mine. Everyones face, breathing patterns and skeletal structure is slightly different and mask perform different for each of us. Best Bet is to try before you buy. |

I did some asking around when Ivan was interested in Save Phace and some friends of mine got "sponsered" by Save Phace. They had them push their masks and was supposed to take care of them but in the end they got shafted by Save Phace. So while they have some kool looking mask I tend to not support shaftiness. But to each his own, if you need a fan for one I can hook you up.

Jay couldn't have said it better IMO. I have had three masks since I started playing paintball. The first was a cheap one that was single lens. Of course it fogged. My second was (and is) a JT full head shield with a thermal (dual pane). I typically use it the most as it rarely fogs. It will under some of the most extreme conditions, but most of the time, none. The last my save phase.
Two major complaints: 1. It fogs bad! I bought a small profile, thermal lens mask to avoid this. I'm a big guy, and I move a lot. That being said, I sweat a lot! I honestly thought this mask would be an improvement. I typically end up using my full head shield because I am so disgusted in this mask! I do not consider this mask usable without a fan. I hate running a fan due to the sound it makes. I don't care if people can hear it, I hate hiding and sneaking, but I can't hear them trying to sneak on me! 2. The digi camo paint which is the other reason I bought it is already peeling off. It started peeling off way too quickly to be acceptable. Honestly, I wish I could get my money back! On the up side, the removable foam is great! I do wish my other mask had that. I can take it out during break and squeeze it out, wash it out, then let it dry in the sun. It is like putting on a new mask aterwards. |

If yours is peeling off you must have bought the machined masks, you can pay a little more to have the designs professionally airbrushed on and they will last longer ive used one for quite some time now and it has few scratches and all of the paint is intact, but its like i typed earlier the better grade paintjob.
But the digi camo may have a different paint or design of some sort that caused it to wear off faster.

I currently use the JT Flex 8 Full Coverage with a thermal lense. If I'm just sitting there stewing, it'll fog, or if the weather is really bad, it'll fog, but most masks will. I like the full coverage, especially since BF is a full auto field. I despise the JT fan, as it sounds like angry hornets when activated and as Brian put it, you can't hear anything. Bootman's fan works great and is quiet. What I really hate about this JT mask is the lens changing. What a pain! I like the idea of the Save Phace Marks Allot series, (it's the DIY paintable mask). I also think the hard plastic will lend itself better to modifications and/or a permanent install of one (or more) of Bootman's fans. Now that I talk it through, it looks like I just want a project to tinker with...
Off topic: did JT get bought out? Their website is down and I now see their stuff on Empire's site.

Hades, something I should have mentioned. There are 2 different full head masks. The first style is the one I use. I bought the newer one, and I can't remember what it was called, I'm thinking spectra, for my wife's brief paintball career. The new one fogs like crazy! I think the good was an alpha.?..

Yeah, mine is professionally air brushed, was a bit more than brians and I love how it turned out, and mine hasn't even given me the slightest bit of coming off. I bought the Dual pane thermal lens for my save phace but did not help with the fogging. I love everything else about my save phace mask just can't stand the fogging, gonna try installing some small fans but it's hard being that it's so low profile. I also heard putting rain-x on it can help, any thoughts about that? I've never tried it.

You may actually have better luck with a single pane lens and using some serious anti fog solutions, like divers use for their masks. Bootmans fan is highly recommended, but you may have to get creative mounting it. I have never seen the inside of this mask and don't know how it rests against your face. I'm not opposed to taking a drill/dremel to the mask to make things work though. Been awhile since I've worked with fiberglass resin but it was fun last time...
