With most of the field under water during WaW4, this movie theme would be good.

If I remember right I worked at the movie theatre when this came out...

This was the first eco-hippie movie and of course Ivan would know something about it.  The poles melted because all the republicans wanna drown us all.  They eco-hippies wanna grow trees and the republican 'smokers' wanna stop'em.  Eventually a girl shows up floating in a basket (see Moses) who will save all the people.  The girl has a tattoo on her back (child abuse) that is a map to dry land.  Eventually they follow it and find Mt. Everest poking out of the water and they are saved.

The bible bangers down south did not like the references to bible stories, no matter how remote.

Little known production secrets about this movie:

The biggest reason it was considered a failure was the excessive cost to make the movie. The reason it cost so much were numerous.  Many of them caused delays, we had movie posters for this one for a LONG time.

1. The 'Atoll' they made was constructed of steel and floated in the ocean off hawaii during some of the filming.  Parts of it fell apart and sank numerous times.  It weighed something like 1000 tons and was a few hundred feet across.
   
2. Half of the movies audio was filmed in the wrong format, or the sound was off or something stupid like that.  They had to go back and redo that.
   
3. Four of the reels were completely destroyed / lost and had to be completely re-shot.  (Each reel is 20 minutes, I think this movie had 7 reels which is like 2+ hours of film)
4. All the re-shoots for sound and video etc made it much more expensive especially considering #1.
   

Is this the movie where Kevin Costner had gills?....wierd
